This month, we’re back at Ashkenaz – the funky, eclectic center of music and dance in Berkeley – where history is on the walls (literally!) and a bit of psychedelia is in the air. And further proving that contra dance attracts the most interesting and erudite, caller-philosopher Frederick Park (with added reputation of master storyteller) will be here from North Carolina to get us moving to 3 O’Clock Shadow, one of the best bands around and featuring our pal Erik Hoffman fiddling away. Or just come for the food – Ashkenaz has a famously scrumptious snack bar!

Beginners are welcome, so tell the uninitiated. (Contra dance? What, pray tell, is that? An exuberant, easy-to-learn barn dance done to live old-timey music, with no partner or special attire required.)
